Before you can ask for Housing advice or apply to join the Housing Register you will need to:
- Create an account - you will need an email address.
- Verify your email address.
- Complete your profile set up.
- Complete the housing register pre-assessment.
- Complete your family and address details.
- Complete the housing advice/homeless triage form.

If you do not have an email address
Setting up an email address is quick and easy to do. The most popular providers are gmail.com, outlook.com and yahoo.com.
In the address bar at the top of your browser, type the address of the email provider you want to use, then do the following:
- Visit the email providers website and select the option for 'create account' and provide the necessary personal details.
- Create a password- it needs to be something you will remember but shouldn't be easy for others to guess.
- Make a note of any security questions you answer as these may help you reset your password if you forget it.
- Agree to the terms and conditions of the provider.
- Once you have completed the process, you are ready to use your email address to send and receive emails.
Homelessness
Are you at risk of being homeless?
Once you have submitted our new triage form, a Housing Advice Officer will contact you within 5 working days. If you are homeless today a Housing Advice officer will contact you today.
If you do not have a place to stay tonight or are at risk of being homeless soon, please contact the Housing Advice Team as soon as possible by completing the triage form or by calling 01243 534734.
If you are made homeless in an emergency situation outside of office hours, please contact the out of hours number on 01243 785339.
Housing Register Guidance
Once you have confirmed and submitted your application, the status of your application will be updated on your 'My account Home Page'. Your application will be assigned to an officer, and you will be contacted within 30 working days of it being received. You will be expected to provide supporting documents. The sooner you provide these documents, the quicker your application can be assessed.
You will receive actions via your online customer account - this will more than likely be a request for you to submit documents (for example, a form of ID or a bank statement). An email notification will be sent when there are actions for you to complete.
The council will actively contact you when there is an update on your application. Not providing documentation or not responding to calls or emails from the council will result in delay, or some cases, your application being removed.
Once your application has been assessed, you will be notified by email. This will prompt you to log into your account.
Not everyone will be eligible to join the housing register. If you are eligible to join, your assessment will explain your Band, bedroom entitlement and effective date. If you are not eligible, you will be told why.
Any information we hold will be kept securely by Chichester District Council in line with GDPR.
